Thanks for visiting CREECHAS!  We like saying “creechas” instead of puppets because creechas really can come alive, become a creature in your hand, not just something you are controlling like a puppet.  This opens up a new world for you and for whoever your audience may be – perhaps children?  Keep in mind that they can do this too!  We all are CREECHAS together!

What Creechas can do for youhappy Creechas puppet - by Matthew Shelton- red with yellow hair

It’s one thing to watch puppets in a show and something entirely different to have them on your hands yourself. Having this “creecha” on your hands gives you permission to speak with a different voice, literally.

And it can be serious, or not. With a creecha, you never have to say “I don’t know what to say” or “I have nothing to say.”

Creecha Puppets give you permission

Creecha puppets give you permission to just go all out. Go all out with your feelings, go all out with your play. Go all out with making someone smile.

So how do you do it?

First of all, don’t speak with your regular voice. Let your puppet, your “creecha” have its own voice.

It could be something as simple as a higher pitched or a lower pitch voice than what you normally speak in.

Or you could choose a more comic voice, something you remember from cartoons growing up. It could be something totally unique.

Using a different voice and moving your puppets mouth letting it form the words makes it so there is another reality happening right there on your hand.

And something else is happening too: People listening aren’t looking at you – they are looking at the puppet. There is this other person, this other  “creecha” all of a sudden that they are looking at and listening to. How cool is that? How many times have you asked yourself or thought to yourself: “I wish I could be different.” Well, now you can.

CREECHAS together!

To take things to a whole ‘nother level, have a puppet on each hand and have each one have a different voice. Now let them interact with each other. Let them have a conversation with each other, a discussion, an argument, something to celebrate, tell a story, you name it.

Even better is when you have each creecha character be quite different from the other. If they look similar, then give them different voices, assigning a voice to each of your creechas.

Let them turn toward each other, nod at something the other is saying. Turn away from each other, turn toward the people that are listening and watching. Let them dance to music. Let them pick up things with their mouths. So many things you can do!
